Writing Wednesday - PiBoIdMo!

It is November! Anyone out there join NaNoWriMo?

Not me. I am a children's writer and I just cannot see myself writing 50,000 words in a month. I think the longest manuscript I have ever written is now at around 28,000 words, and I pulled out a lot of hair to get it to that amount.

I am best at writing picture books, where less is more! Some people do not realize it, but it is really hard to write picture books. It is hard to get that great story with so few words. Every word counts, so you strive to make every word great.

I joined PiBoIdMo! That is translated into Picture Book Idea Month. I have a link to it on my side bar. Members are to come up with a new picture book idea each day during November.

I was getting worried yesterday, I wasn't getting any good ideas. Sure, I was getting ideas, but they were vague, stupid ideas.

I went to bed and voila! (It always pays to have a pencil and tablet near your bed). I came up with an idea, it wasn't great, but it was an okay idea. I got up, scrounged around for a piece of paper and pencil and wrote it down. Then, I came up with a great idea. I reached over and wrote it down. I am so glad I wrote it down, because it is so easy to forget those great ideas that pop up in your head at night.

Only 29 more days to go.

Do you think you might like to give it a try? There is still time to sign up. But hurry, November 3rd is the deadline. I would love for you to join me. You can go here and sign up.

Wish me luck and I wish all the participants in NaNoWriMo good luck.

Got any great ideas to share?

  1. Nope. No nano for me right now.
I don't think I could ever write a children's book! I agree that it would be very difficult.

  2. I LOVE that pic of the berry patch! Good luck with your PiBoIdMo ideas--I get most of mine in the shower. So I'm fixing to go take a shower (or maybe two!) :-)

  3. Good luck with your PiBoIdMo ideas. I have absolutely no set pattern as to when I get ideas, though walking int the mountains seems to help, but can't do that doing the work week!

  4. Janet,
Good luck with your ideas for picture books. I don't have any ideas, but I love to look at the photos and read children's books. Sometimes I read to the children at our local school. I enjoy reading to the kids. Thanks for the website. You have such creative ideas!

  7. Good luck, and keep those children's books coming. My 2 1/2 year-old grand-daughter goes through them like candy! Jim

  8. I keep pencil and paper on my nightstand, too. It really does work the way you say!

  9. Good luck! I've always meant to keep paper and pencil by my bed because just as I'm drifting off, I have the most wonderful ideas!

  11. I joined the NaNoWriMo, but I am terribly behind on the third day! It is not looking good for me. I always keep a pen and paper beside of my bed, and have used it for lots of things, including items for the grocery list that I remember during the night. :)

  12. Hi Janet! I would love to try that sometime, but I would never be able to reach such a goal, right at this time. Best wishes to you and all those who are using this month to push the writing envelope! I think it is a great idea and very inspiring! Have a great day. Delisa ;)
