Displaying Vintage Ads

I love vintage ads. I think some of them look like works of art.

I have an old book that I bought at a thrift store a few years ago. It is filled with original Life Magazines from 1938. It isn't in very good shape. A lot of the pages are torn, but it only cost twenty-five cents, so I grabbed it.

It was just sitting on a shelf and not being appreciated. So I cut out some of the ads and framed them.

I love Coke  memorabilia.

I think this is an ad for Coke and International Trucks - two ads in one! I love the yellow - it just pops right out at you.

I hung these two Coke ones up in my dining room.

Here are a few of the other ads I cut from the book.

I thought this might be cute hung in a baby's room :o)

Another Coke ad

Apparently, RC Cola held a weekly contest back in the 1930s.
Nice Prize!

Car Ads

Some ads were funny - the Colgate ad about bad breath and
the Fels-Naptha Soap ad.

This isn't the first time I've framed ads or pictures from books.

I  write stories for kids. These are pages from old children's books. The books were in very bad condition. I would never cut pages out of a good book! I think these would look nice hung up in a young child's room.

Have you ever framed magazine or book art?
If not, keep an eye out for old books or magazines.
Try it - I think you will like it.

    1. Thanks, so do I! I love all those old post cards you've been putting on Facebook, too.

  2. These are interesting, Janet. I have some antique buttons which are still on their cards. The pictures on the cards are little works of art. I love seeing the price of those buttons!

  3. What a treasure trove you have here. I used to do teacher workshops and listen to attendees gasp when i admitted i cut up books...to make learning games. I think the youngsters call that repurposing. Have a great day.

    1. Hi, Linda. I hate to cut them up, but I only do it when they are already in very bad shape. And, this way I can share the good parts.

  4. Janet,
Wish I could find that book, I should look in used book on a few sites I know about. Great pictures. Those old ads seem so much nicer then the new ones. more style or something.

    1. Hi, Nancy. I didn't even know they made these kind of books until I found this one. I've had it a long time and always wanted to do something with it, instead of it just sitting on a shelf.

  6. Love the ads! I have a worn copy of my gran's November 1967 Woman's Day here in my office. Favorite features: homemade Christmas gift ideas, gross quick supper recipes (hot dog pizza? And margarine, margarine, margarine...), interesting articles, and an intense coffee ad---> "Good coffee is like friendship: rich and warm and strong...Give it character. Bless it with strength. MAKE IT COFFEE. MAKE IT OFTEN. MAKE IT RIGHT.") The very best pages are the ones with my gran's precious handwriting, making notes to herself.
