This is just a quickie to show you the views we woke up to this morning from our room on the 7th floor.
This is one of the reasons I love the 7th floor rooms.
You are up above the clouds in the morning. Below those clouds is a gorge where the Bluestone River flows through. There is also another lodge down there that is only accessible by tramway.
Later in the day we went past Hinton about 9 miles to Sandstone Falls. You walk out onto the board walk and view the falls. It is beautiful and worth the trip.
More views of the falls.
One more view.
Do any of you know what kind of fungus growth this is? We came upon this on a trail walk today. It sure is weird looking, isn't it.
I will try to catch up on my blog visiting when we get back home on Thursday.
Thanks for all your comments.
Hi Jan, I know you are at Pipestem. I didn't know you weren't home when I emailed you...then I thought I'd check your blog to find out where you are. Have fun....I can hardly wait until October for my vacation. Maybe I can talk John into a short one before then. I love to travel the State too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are having fun...
ReplyDeleteLove the fog photos. sandstone is a favorite place of mine. did you see the stone wall along the road to the falls? they call it the "slave wall"--i suppose it was built by slaves; it's certainly a beauty and really long.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo's! I can see why Shirley's ancestors settled the Bluestone Valley back in the 1700's.
ReplyDeleteI think the fungi that you inquire about may be White-pored Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus cincinnatus). If this is what it is, I have heard that it is edible and tastes exactly like chicken. I've never tried it though, so I can't say for sure.
Keep having fun, Shirley and I are heading over to that part of the state for our anniversary later this month.
Breath-taking scenes. You must be really enjoying yourselves.
ReplyDeleteBlessings

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI imagine it is more beautiful in person. And the sound of the water must be amazing.
