Frosty, Foggy Morning

Fog

The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking over harbor and city
on silent haunches

and then moves on.

Carl Sandburg

Fog rising from the pond and creek this morning.

We woke up this morning to fog,
and unfortunately,
frost on roof tops
and ice on windshields.

I just walked around and checked everything out and we were lucky, nothing got bit by the cold.
We have little clusters of grapes, small blueberries and blooms, the blackberries are just starting to bloom and we have tiny apples.
It is supposed to be cold again tonight, so I'm crossing my fingers that everything can withstand another cold night.

Here is my latest iris to bloom. . .

This is the only iris I bought at the store. The package said it was yellow, which is my favorite color, but this is not what I consider yellow. It took a while for this color to grow on me, so to speak. But I now like this brownish yellow iris.

Do any of you know what color iris this is supposed to be?

    Love the foggy picture.
I hope the frost doesn't get any of your blooms.
It's supposed to be around 40 tonight here. I hope it doesn't go any lower or my garden will be a loss.

  2. I visited Carl Sandburg's home on Mother's Day. There is a beautiful pond there for the Fog to rise from. Stay warm and I hope the best for your plants!

  3. Don't know the name-but the Iris is pretty-I have some like that.

Glad nothing got bit at your house-and I hope nothing does tonight at my house or your house.

  4. Frost at my house too, Janet, and ice on the windshields. But everything got through all right. There is no way to cover all the plants now.

I used to have an iris like that. It was called either copper or bronze, I can't remember which. I like it mixed with other colors. I also had one that was light purple tops and those brownish falls. It sounds weird but it was actually very pretty.

  6. I have not seen an iris like that, but I do like it. Kind of maroonish. We have had some cold temperatures too, but things still seem to be surviving.

  7. Ohhh! A cold frosty morning!
I love the poem by Carl Sandburg. It was one of my favorites when I was little.
I love the color of the iris but I don't know the name.
My mother's yard in West Virginia is full of irises. I can't get them to grow here in Florida.

  8. Janet,
I'm sorry that I haven't been here in a while but I wanted to comment on your iris. I think that it's salmon with a purple edging.

  9. I love the first and last photos. What program did you use to get those borders? That first photo would be great for enlarging and framing.
