Back To The Grind

I just ate my morning bowl of oatmeal. It is slow moving this morning, I need to wake up and get to work!

I started working on my February article for Two-Lane Livin', it is due on Saturday. My article in December was titled  "Collecting Memories."  You can go here and check out all of my past articles.

I need to sharpen my pencils and get back to my writing.

I have many stories, but they are not going to get published sitting inside my hard drive. I am going to get serious and send out my Middle Grade story, The Family Secret to publishers. . . again. I need to get out my Picture Book manuscripts and send a few out. And while I am waiting the loooong wait to hear back about them, I need to start a few new stories. I have been very lazy with my writing lately and someone needs to slap me on my hand with a ruler. That's what the teachers used to do when I was in grade school. They held out your palm and slapped you with a ruler. Now a days, teachers would get in trouble for doing that. It never hurt me, though, it only took one time and I learned my lesson. I never did anything else to get the ruler slap again!

So, I think I am going to spray on some of my Infini perfume my husband gave me for Christmas, look  at my pretty Fenton vase and bird my boys gave me and try to wake up and get to work.

I hope all of you had a nice Christmas.

Is it hard for you to get back to work, too?

  1. Getting back to writing after being away a few days is the hardest thing I ever do. Wonder why that is? It's the most rewarding when I'm in the middle of it but it's so hard to get into the groove again.
Like me you seem to have many projects going on. I too need to get stuff out there. I need to hop back on track and fast.
It was a nice holiday here but time to move on.
God bless us both as we pick up our work can carry on.
    Blessings on this day. Barb

  2. I must say I work but I set my own hours -- I'm retired and spend my hours writing and doing photography plus a few other side lines. But I am lucky as I make my hours and I pick my line of work. Wasn't always this way -- my thoughts are, why didn't I live this life style sooner. Liked all the nice family presents you received -- barbara

  3. So hard to get back to work. I just didn’t want to do it but nonetheless--I had to. Where do you send your stories? We would love to send in a children’s story but really have no idea where to go with it. If you ever have a chance to share-that would be wonderful. Happy New Year!

  4. I got back to it the day after Christmas, writing two articles and reading a book to review. None of these are paid gigs, though :) At least it's writing. For me the writing never really stops with my blog to do almost every day and the other things I do. Not to mention my 9-5 job that require a lot of writing. But to get into really seriously writing a story--I have not done that for a long time. You're right--it's time to get back into it.

I encourage you to get your writing projects out there-if you don't toot your own horn who will? And you are a good writer-and have already had some real success-so get on it girl ; )

  6. It is hard to get back into the swing of work. It usually takes me a few days to get back into the routine.

  8. Not the ruler slap!!! Had an old school Kindergarten teacher that believed in this. I only had to see it once to know it wasn't for me:). Go write, but by all means avoid any extreme motivation!! (darling bird:)

  9. Janet,
I was wondering why I was in the slow lane today. Sounds as though you and I are having the same sort of day getting back into the routine of work. It takes awhile to get back on schedule after the holidays. I wish you a very happy New Year with much writing and much publishing of your work.

  10. My friend Mindy has a online publishing company called "49 publishing". Not sure if you are the right genre for her company, but you may want to give it a shot. SHe put out a call for submissions last week.
