My Mother's Day Present To Me

I went to a few yard sales today. I could have came home after the first one and been very, very happy.

I told my husband that these were my Mother's Day presents to me.

A hand-quilted Dutch Boy quilt. (I think that is what the pattern is called) I just love, love, love it.
It is full size and cost me $5

A Fenton Spanish Lace with silver crest footed cake plate. I've always wanted one of these. They say they were one of the most popular pieces that Fenton made. $1
I'm making a strawberry pie for tomorrow, I think I will display my pie on the cake plate.

A Fenton Birthday Bear and Fenton handpainted cat. $2 each

I am not a very high maintenance girl. Just take me to a yard sale and I am happy.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!

A Little Writing and a Lot of Fiesta

I usually have a writing post on Wednesdays, but I don't have much to say about writing today.

I received a rejection email from the agent I queried for my MG book.

Our writing group has not been meeting lately and I do miss the meetings. I am thinking of trying to find some online writers to share manuscripts with to edit and critique. I need someone else to read my stories. Other eyes see things our own eyes do not.

I am still working on putting together my family history book. I am anxious to get it finished and printed. But, really it will never be finished, because it is still being written....because life goes on and on. I had spoken to one of my cousins before about his remembrances and he had told me he used to go hunting with my Grandpa. This was a long time ago, because my grandpa died before I was born. I saw my cousin over the weekend and asked him about it again. I am glad I did. Seems the hunting he spoke about was not for squirrels, deer or bear. . . but ginseng!

My mind lately has been on colors! The colors of Fiestaware! We are traveling to Newell, WV very early tomorrow morning to attend Homer Laughlin's semi-annual Fiestaware tent sale. I have never been to their tent sale before and I am so looking forward to it. Newell is in the tip top section of our state. If we are lucky and do not get lost along the way, it will take 3 1/2 hours to get there. But, it will  be worth it. The prices are incredible!

What color do you like best?

If you are familiar with Fiestaware, what is your favorite piece?

I am making a list and checking it twice. Wish you could come along, I might need someone to slap my hand and keep me from buying too much.

Our state is a beautiful and wonderful section of America. Two of West Virginia's best ambassadors are Homer Laughlin and Fenton. Their products add beauty to our world.  If you are not familiar with their products, go check out their sites.

I Have a Courting Lamp!

If you have been following me for very long, you know I love Fenton and I love hobnail milkglass.
I have posted here about my milkglass finds before.

I went to a yard sale Saturday and saw this pretty little thing sitting on the table. I picked it up and just had to have it. I thought it was Fenton, but wasn't 100% sure until I went home and looked it up. When I looked it up, I found out that it was a Fenton oil courting lamp!  Isn't she cute. She wanted $2 for it, so it found a new home with me. Now I guess Charley and I are going to have to do some courting.

I also bought this beautiful Westmoreland milkglass vase.
It is very heavy and I think a bouquet of flowers would look so nice in it.

I keep saying I am going to stop going to yard sales.
But how can I when these items are waiting on me to come get them?
Does anyone else out there have a courting lamp?

Back To The Grind

I just ate my morning bowl of oatmeal. It is slow moving this morning, I need to wake up and get to work!

I started working on my February article for Two-Lane Livin', it is due on Saturday. My article in December was titled  "Collecting Memories."  You can go here and check out all of my past articles.

I need to sharpen my pencils and get back to my writing.

I have many stories, but they are not going to get published sitting inside my hard drive. I am going to get serious and send out my Middle Grade story, The Family Secret to publishers. . . again. I need to get out my Picture Book manuscripts and send a few out. And while I am waiting the loooong wait to hear back about them, I need to start a few new stories. I have been very lazy with my writing lately and someone needs to slap me on my hand with a ruler. That's what the teachers used to do when I was in grade school. They held out your palm and slapped you with a ruler. Now a days, teachers would get in trouble for doing that. It never hurt me, though, it only took one time and I learned my lesson. I never did anything else to get the ruler slap again!

So, I think I am going to spray on some of my Infini perfume my husband gave me for Christmas, look  at my pretty Fenton vase and bird my boys gave me and try to wake up and get to work.

I hope all of you had a nice Christmas.

Is it hard for you to get back to work, too?
