Local Landmark Topples

This local landmark is just a hop and a skip down the road from where I live.

But, not any more.
The walls came tumbling down.

According to a friend who lives across the road from it,
the old barn fell to the ground with a loud rumble at 9:45 pm last night.

I will miss it, we have drove past it almost daily for the last 30 years.

No longer will I get to take seasonal pictures of this beautiful relic of a time gone by.

I posted on this barn before. It has been leaning for quite some time. Seems like each trip down the road the lean was a little more pronounced. I knew it was just a matter of time.

Wish I could have held it up.

Good Bye, Old Friend.

  1. Oh Janet, how sad is that? What a beautiful old barn and historic with that mail pouch sign on it. Sorry it's gone too :(

  2. Hey Janet,

That's so sad that it fell like that. I'm sure you will miss it. It is so different when landmarks like that disappear!

    Have a Great Day!

  4. You would think it would have waited for some snow instead of just falling on its own. LOL

  5. Sad....We don't have many more barns with those advertisements on them. Another piece of American History - gone...glad you have a photo left for a memory!

  6. It breaks your heart to see an old relic like this on the ground; no longer standing and marking time as it goes by. Old barns and houses are bits of history. Glad you have photos of it still standing.

  7. R and I love old barns and we dread to see them fall down. What a sad thing. I'd save them all if I could or as you said, just hold it up.

Thanks for sharing this esp the photos as they bring back so many memories.

Here's to preservation of all barns.

  8. Janet-sorry it fell. There is one when I first turn off the main highway coming home-I'm not sure how much longer it can stand either.
