Yard sales are starting to slowly pop up in our area.
I couldn't pass up this rooster and hen pair. You can't tell by the picture, but these are old and they have crazing on them, which I think makes them pretty. On the back it has USA 465. I love them, I haven't been able to find any like them on the internet.
And, I found this Fenton Bicentennial Plate, #1 in a series of 4 that they made. It is milk glass, which everyone knows I love. It came in it's original box. I love milk glass and things patriotic, so it was a fit for me.
You all notice that green lamp sitting in back of the plate. I posted about this lamp before, but no one knew much about it. It looks like it was made out of green vintage plastic bowls and candle holders. Do any of you know anything about this type of lamp? Were they manufactured or did someone hand make it?
You can go here and read my 2009 post about it and see more detailed pictures.
I spent a total of $5 today, which I don't think was too bad.
Any yard sales in your area yet?
Wow, Janet you got some good buys today! I love Fenton glass and milk glass too. My Aunt Emma Jean had the most wonderful collection of milk glass I have ever seen. I always looked forward to coming in and hearing the stories about her new pieces. Beautiful lamp! I am on the look out for a cobalt blue Fenton glass fruit basket. I had one sitting on my dining table for years, it was my favorite piece. Then a couple of months ago my dear hubby got his jacket caught on the lace table cloth as he walked by and before he knew what happened off went the cloth and the basket shattered in a million pieces. He felt so bad about it, I couldn't even be a bit mad. :) Finding a new one has been next to impossible, I have looked everywhere. Have a nice evening! Delisa :)
ReplyDeleteMy wife doesn't care for yard sales, so I only stop if I see some antique tools (they're made better than new ones)!
ReplyDeleteI love your finds. I like chickens and roosters esp old ones. I have several pairs. I think WV would be a great place to garage sale and thrift shop.
ReplyDeleteI'll remember that next time I am lucky enough to be there.
Always enjoy seeing what you are up to.
Blessings, Barb
What great finds! I always love chickens and my dining room is decorated in Americana all spring, summer, and fall. You did good!
ReplyDeleteI arrived at your blog from Old Centennial Farmhouse and find it quite interesting, since I also like to write. I have written a short book about the first ten years of my life (1941-1951)so my grandchildren can know what our lives were like. It was self-published. I guess you can say I like chickens; we are contract poultry growers. lol
ReplyDeleteWow! Janet, you sure found some lovely things at the yard sell. I love the chickens and the Fenton Bicentennial Plate. You never know what treasures you'll find at yard sells. I'm looking forward to taking in the yard sells.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend.
You are a bargain hunter too, I see. I love yard sales.
ReplyDeleteJanet,
ReplyDeleteThat lamp is a real beauty. I bet its so pretty when turned on.I will go read your other post about it. I have never seen white the rooster and hen in white. I have several of them but they are all colors, and from the 1950's I think. I would say the five dollars was well spent.

I went to a yardsale last week-love this time of the year-cause yardsales are the only place I can afford to shop!
ReplyDeleteNice finds..the rooster and hen will look nice with your milk glass..the same thing happened to me as Delsia..my husband accidentally broke a dark green glass candy dish that a dear old neighbor lady gave me when I was ten years old..I was very sad..I searched for years and finally found one just like it..it is a different one but at least I still have a memory.
